DMI Appoints Aerospace & Defense Leader Bertram Gorlo as Co-CEO to Drive the Next Growth Phase

DMI Appoints Aerospace & Defense Leader Bertram Gorlo as Co-CEO to Drive the Next Growth Phase

Data Machine intelligence (DMI) is expanding its executive leadership with Bertram Gorlo as Co-CEO, effective of November 1, 2025. With this appointment, DMI further strengthens its position as a key enabler for European Mission Autonomy in the Aeronautics, Defense & Space industry.

The addition of Bertram Gorlo represents the latest development in DMI’s strategic and organizational expansion, building upon last month’s appointment of Achim Krockenberger, who joined DMI as CEO, coming from Airbus Defense and Space.

Experienced Leader to Accelerate DMI’s Scaling and Mission Autonomy Ecosystem

Bertram Gorlo brings over 30 years of international management experience in the aerospace and defense industry, with a proven track record at leading companies like Airbus Helicopters, Airbus Defence and Space, and MTU Aero Engines. His expertise, honed through managing complex helicopter and aircraft programs such as NH90, Tornado, F4, and C160, and his strategic key account management across multiple European nations, will be instrumental in scaling DMI’s unified software ecosystem for mission autonomy. His recent role as managing director for Starburst, a leading innovation catalyst, strengthens DMI’s ability to bring mission autonomy into operational use across industry and government.

Bertram combines in-depth technical expertise with extensive experience in business development, an excellent overview of the start-up ecosystem in the aviation and defense industry, and a strong network in industry, the German Armed Forces and government institutions. This unique blend supports DMI’s mission to help defense organizations rapidly develop, securely deploy, and effectively operate autonomous systems while staying in full control of their data and intellectual property.

“Bertram is a tremendous asset to DMI”, says Achim Krockenberger, Co-CEO of DMI. “His experience in managing large programs, his understanding of the needs of start-ups, and his high-level network will help us shape our growth path.”

DMI: Empowering European Mission Autonomy

DMI is building a unified software ecosystem that lets defense organizations develop, deploy, and operate trusted autonomous systems, while maintaining full ownership of their data and intellectual property. Its product portfolio covers the entire pipeline – from foundational infrastructure and agent building blocks to mission autonomy capabilities that enable the full sense-decide-act cycle.

Quote from Bertram Gorlo

“I am excited to join DMI and leverage my experience to drive the accelerated adoption of trusted autonomous systems across European industry and government. Together with Achim and the fantastic DMI team, we will expand DMI’s innovative products, ensuring our customers gain a decisive innovation edge and solidify Europe’s leading role in safe and responsible AI. We are committed to shaping how autonomy is engineered, deployed, and maintained, ensuring the future of autonomy is made in Europe.”
